Episode 18: Titus and Philemon. Qualities that God’s People should display. Bible Overview part 16.

Qualities that God’s People should display.

What are some of the qualities that God’s people should model to the world? Paul addresses this in his letter to Titus and to Philemon. Titus was a Christian worker and helper of Paul’s ministry. Paul had left Titus behind on the island of Crete to minister to the churches throughout the Island of Crete.

Crete had a reputation of being an island where people were liars, evil beasts, and idle gluttons. Even some of those in the church needed to be reproved and corrected.

One of the tasks of Titus was to appoint overseers in the cities of Crete to oversee the churches. Overseers is another name for Pastors. They are also called Elders.  These Christian leaders and all Christians are to display a life of blameless and godliness.  Paul gives details of the quality of life to be modeled by Christian leaders, older men, older women, younger women, younger men, and servants.

Paul’s letter to Philemon, shows us that Christians are to treat other Christians as fellow brothers, even those of lower status in the world’s eyes.
